Sidley shine on scorching Saturday

It was another unbeaten weekend for the area’s Sussex County Football League clubs.

Sidley United pulled off a terrific 3-2 win away to Pagham in Division One, while Rye United, Little Common and Westfield all drew in scorching weather yesterday (Saturday).

Pagham had their goalkeeper sent-off when the game was goalless and Sidley took advantage with a great goal from Matt Darby and another from Chris Gould to lead 2-0 at half time.

But a Pagham side which had won its previous three matches in all competitions this season fought back to 2-2 before Gould cut inside and lashed the ball into the far corner towards the end.

Rye had to settle for a 2-2 draw away to Worthing United in the same division despite leading twice. Matt Maclean scored both goals to make it six for the season already and Worthing had a player sent-off at 2-1.

In Division Two, Little Common staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 at home to Midhurst & Easebourne. Jared Lusted and Lewis Hole were on target as Common rallied from two-down.

Westfield drew 1-1 at home to Loxwood in the same division. Both goals came early on with Loxwood taking the lead before Ashley Paine headed the equaliser from Jethro Warren’s free kick.

Full reports on all these matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
