Sids and Clymping share spoils in a Sussex League classic

Clymping started the better of the sides in their Sussex League third-division visit to Sidlesham, pushing for a goal from the off '“ and Sids keeper Lee Arnell had to be at his best to stem the pressure.

It was against the run of play when on 15 minutes Paul Barnes opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season,

Clymping were still pushing forward and on 25 minutes a free-kick cleared the Sids’ wall. Arnell made a tremendous save but the defence was slow to react and a Clymping forward struck the ball home to equalise.

Five minutes later Clymping were awarded a penalty but again the home keeper pulled off another great save to keep the scores level.

The second half was end to end and on 60 minutes a push on a Sids player saw them awarded a penalty which was missed.

On 75 minutes another penalty was given against Sids resulting in the dismissal of the offender. The Sids keeper was given no chance from the spot.

This seemed to stir the Sids and they equalised on 80 minutes when John Phillips fired home and two minutes later Danny Millins scored a third – but it was honours even after the Sids conceded a late goal on 90 minutes. This week Sids face Westfield in the Intermediate Cup.
