Alan Skipper believes he has seen enough from his Steyning Town side in pre-season to target a top-eight finish in Division 1 of the Southern Combination League.

Town have made a number of exciting additions to their squad as well as retaining the majority of last year’s side that finished tenth in County League Division 2.

Joining the club are Lee Garnham, from Division 1 champions Littlehampton, Will Garrett, from local rivals Storrington, Kevin Sharpe, from newly-promoted Southwick, while Craig Knowles also re-signs for the club.

Keeper Ben Rose returns from Haywards Heath to replace Aaron Jeal, who has signed for Wick & Barnham United. Other ex-players returning and signing are George McMahon, Shaun Skipper, Khalid Bilal, Ashley Elms, Michael Waller and Jordy Walser.

Skipper feels they are up for the fight in a tough division and said: “When I look at the league I think it will be very strong with Haywards Heath and Southwick will be up there too.

“Top eight is probably where we are looking as that allows you to qualify for the FA Cup if the ground grading is right. From what I have seen and the players I have got, I’d like to push on from there.

“We should have a signing next week which is very significant and it’s one that will show our intentions.”
