Brighton’s last five Championship matches have yielded just seven goals and only two of those from the Seagulls.
Boxing Day at the Madejski bucked the recent trend of 1-0 results as in-form Reading scored three without reply.
New Year’s Eve will hopefully see a return to form for the Seagulls as they visit Coventry City who, despite a win against fellow strugglers Bristol City, remain at the foot of the Championship.
The Sky Blues are 13/8 to win two on the bounce for the first time this season while the draw is 9/4 and Brighton at 15/8.
Coventry also find goals hard to come by, with only three in their last five and a low-scoring affair looks assured. The traditional 2.5 goals market is 8/13 for the under and 6/5 for the over. For better value it may be worth looking at under 1.5 goals in the match at 7/4.
It is only one goal in the last 14 games for Craig Mackail-Smith but the Scottish international must surely rediscover his scoring touch sooner rather than later? The striker is 11/2 to score first and 6/4 to net at any time during the 90 minutes.
I have been very impressed by Reading’s recent run and believe there will be worse bets than the 33/1 currently on offer for them to win the Championship and the 6/1 for them to be promoted is surely too big.
The Seagulls are 16s to be promoted (33s for the drop) as the layers now expect a season of consolidation rather than the promotion challenge that the first few weeks of the season suggested.
In previous years Premier League managers have spoken about the Holy Grail of getting 40 points for survival, but we think it will be less this campaign and are asking how many points will the side finishing 17th (safe) get this season?
Under 36.5: 10/11
Over 36.5: 10/11
We at victorchandler.com have a number of specials for 2012 including asking if you think a number of players will leave during the January transfer window including:
Chris Samba: 10/11
Darren Bent: 5/2
Jack Rodwell: 6/5
Wes Sneijder: 6/4
Fernando Torres: 5/2
Aside from football one of the specials I like is the 14/1 on offer for Rory McIlroy and his girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki to both win a Major Championship in 2012.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year from all at Victor Chandler.
