The retention of so many of last season’s squad was vital for Bloor, and he revealed that more players were set to commit to the Sports.

The Borough boss said: “Continuity is key to how we want to work. We’ll hopefully be tying up another one of last season’s group very soon.

“We still have a number of our excellent youth team players around us so hopefully they will be committing as well.

“I think it is vital to the way our club wants to work.”

The Sports have also boosted their ranks by acquiring defender Jake Elliott from Hastings United.

The 22-year-old played 11 times for the Us in last season’s curtailed Isthmian South East campaign.

Bloor was sufficiently impressed with the young defender, and predicted that the youngster could have a future in the upper echelons of English football.

He added: “We saw him play for Hastings and I sincerely believe he is a boy that has got the ability to play in the Football League.

“I think he’ll give us an added dimension.”

Eastbourne Borough returned to training on Monday ahead of their first pre-season friendly at home to Bexhill United next Tuesday, July 6.

Bloor was delighted to back on the pitch and lauded his players for being in excellent condition following their extended hiatus.

He said: “We did have one or two missing for various reasons but it was good to get back.

“The fitness of the boys was incredible. It was really, really refreshing to see.

“It’s not like years ago, players don’t come back overweight, they come back in really good shape.

“It was really good just to see the lads and a number of promising trialists as well.”
