Boddie had seven players unavailable for the game so his side were always up against it.

He said: “If realistic we were always up against it as we had seven unavailable for a variety of reasons and the back line was brought together for the first time.

“In saying that everyone that was involved played a part and I was pleased with the way our attacking play has come on, the guys up front are beginning to for an understanding.”

Rhys White scored Rangers’ only goal and was also man of the match for the visitors.

Rangers were reduced to 10 men with 10 minutes to go when Idriz Adeoja was shown a straight red.

Boddie told Middy Sport: “Rhys White was a plus and he took his goal very well, another new player Idriz Adedoja also put in a good performance albeit he was dismissed with a straight red on 80 minutes. As his manager I will overlook that as I feel he has learned a harsh lesson and it could have been dealt with differently on another day.

“Ben Haskell the younger of the Haskell brothers made a very impressive debut and for his age was in no way intimidated by the opposition

“It was tough baptism but we came away with heads held high, the second performance was better than the first which shows me that we are forming some team spirit now after a disjointed pre-season that any club would encounter when completely re vamping a squad. Most defeats are down to a mistake and the first two goals were definitely mistakes which lessons can be learnt from.”

Rangers host Little Common in the first league game of the season on Saturday. Boddie said: “We still have a few on holiday but a couple are now back I have recently signed a couple of additional players who will get a run out in our final preparation match and could well feature in season opener also some of the u21s are beginning to gain more confidence in their ability and I am sure they will be an asset to us as well as the u21 side.

“I feel that message that I and my coaching team are putting across is now becoming reality, there is more to come but I am looking forward to Saturday’s match v Little Common with confidence. Little Common are a hard working side who never give up but they were beaten on Saturday too, so will be looking for a decent beginning to their season.

“This means that any spectators can expect a closely fought match and if my strike force take their chances a I believe we will be in for a very tough contest, but a contest that we can come out of as victors.”
