Steve Herbert: It’s like Scott Lindsey hasn’t even been away

The return of the Messiah has produced an instant impact for Crawley Town.

Back to back wins, five goals scored and two clean sheets in a row. It would be so Scott Lindsey and Crawley Town if the most unbelievable of stories comes to fruition and we somehow survive relegation this season.

A fortnight ago under Rob Elliott we were 12 points adrift and had just been hammered 5-1 at Huddersfield with fans leaving in their droves before halftime. Fast forward two weeks and we have just witnessed our biggest win of the season 4-0 at Steve Evans Rotherham. What an unbelievable turnaround and for once the credit has to go to our owners for putting the Crawley Town jigsaw back together again by bringing Scott Lindsey back.

Staying on the ex-manager theme it was great to see Richard Barker in the stands with us at the New York stadium, who was there supporting his lad Charlie, who has been our stand out player at the back this campaign. We enjoyed some great times and amazing wins under Richard Barker the last time we were at this level.

With teams like Plymouth and possibly Derby coming down from the Championship, it’s imperative that we pull out all the stops now to remain at the third tier of English football. No doubt if the wins keep coming, Scott Lindsey’s profile will rise with it. But if he keeps us up, I have a feeling next season could produce something special again, especially with the big-hitters Birmingham and Wrexham nailed on to go up.

These players just love playing for Scott, the belief and confidence amongst the whole team has risen tenfold. Four more wins from our remaining seven matches could just about be enough to seal the most unlikeliest of survival stories League One has ever seen.
