Steve Herbert: Let's hope Portsmouth in League Two as I'm sure our owners would appreciate another Pompey pay day next season

Chatting to some Barnet fans on the walk back to Canons Park tube station after Saturday's game, even they conceded how lucky their side had been to pinch a point at the death.

For all the praise that I have given Reds keeper Glenn Morris over the past few weeks, it was a shame he was caught out by Barnet’s equaliser. Although he can be excused any criticism of Barnet’s late leveller.

It was more of a freak cross than a wonder strike from 30 yards. Whichever way you look at it, it was hard on Morris and the players to take, dropping two points so late in the game. But even after Barnet’s late goal, James Collins and Dean Cox both could of been heroes at the end, but it wasn’t to be.

Enzio Boldewijn was the hero of the game, first with an assist for Rhys Murphy to put us into the lead and then shortly after half time Enzio showed us once again his Dutch magic by taking on the Barnet full back cutting in and placing the ball delightfully into the far corner to put us 2-1 up.

It was the kind of goal that Enzio has up his sleeve and the way he celebrated with us fans behind the goal will just cement his place as a fans favourite even more.

Talking of the Reds fans that travelled on Saturday they were an absolute credit to the football club. Singing throughout the game and creating plenty of atmosphere in the away end.

The reality is Barnet could possibly be our only London fixture next season, such is Leyton Orient’s current plight.

It would be such a shame to see Orient drop into non league. It just goes to show how miss ownership can affect a club.

In an ideal world Orient would stay up and Dagenham will come back up.

But it’s looking increasingly likely that Barnet is going to be our only day out in the capital next season.

Talking of clubs with a history of mismanagement Portsmouth came to the checkatrade last week and boosted the gate to a healthy 5,300 thanks to their impressive travelling blue army. The result was a disappointment and I just felt we showed them far to much respect and let them play.

Let’s hope they stay in League Two as I’m sure our owners would appreciate another Pompey pay day next season, just like us fans would appreciate another day out to Fratton Park.

This Saturday we travel to Grimsby well Cleethorpes to be exact. Let’s just hope the Reds fans that travel remember to sing the classic terrace chant that all away fans sing at Grimsby... “Sing when your fishing! You only sing when your fishing!” :)
