Having taken the lead through Rob Clark’s excellent 12th minute strike, Steyning found themselves behind after goals from Wanstall straight after half-time and Andy Tuckey after the hour.

Visiting Town pulled themselves level when George McMahon lashed home Clark’s cut back and twice struck the woodwork before Wanstall’s winner in the 80th minute.

Town had drawn at the same opponents the previous week and will feel they deserved another point this time out as their winless run extended to five games.

Steyning assistant manager Ryan Andrews said: “We were solid and compact, worked hard and deserved a point.

“We played well for a lot of the game, I can’t criticise the players at all and our goalkeeper shouldn’t really have carried on as he had concussion which affected the game.

“18-year-old Adam Christian came in from the youth team and was excellent for us on his first start, so that was very positive for us as well.

“We had some great chances and can count ourselves unlucky, but it’s in the games against the so called lesser sides that have cost us this season.

“We’ve been pegged back and dropped points in games we should have won comfortably and that’s why we’re ninth, but we’ll keep going and look to finish the season strongly.”

Town: Rose; Early, Skilton, Finch, Christian; Harris, Elms, McMahon, Dodd; Harding, Clark. Subs: Shuga’a (Skilton 46), Towse (Harris 57), A Gritt (Finch 60).
