The former Middlesbrough midfielder was installed as the new permanent boss last night along with Cliff Cant after the pair impressed in an interim capacity.

Wednesday night’s 2-1 win against East Grinstead secured the job as they continued to turn around the Hornets’ fortunes.

The club are still bottom of the Ryman League South Division table and because of that Storey has said there is no time to mess around in their battle to beat the drop.

He said: “We will keep going until we get it right. Cliff and I are never off the phone.

“Jack Hope came in on Tuesday night and had an excellent debut at left-back because Lewis Hamilton was not fit.

“He is normally a right-back or can play centre-half, but he was outstanding and dealt with their threat down the right-hand side really well.

“We will keep going as there is still personnel I would like to strengthen things up. I’d like another centre-half and experienced centre-midfielder.

“We haven’t the time to mess around. People come and go and even the new signings and players that have come in, if they are not doing it, we’ll have to move them on.”

On Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over East Grinstead, he added: “It was a fantastic team performance to be honest. We ground a great result out and we needed it.

“The three points keep us in touching distance. East Grinstead had a lot of possession and we set up to get men behind the ball.

“We got organised and tried to hit them on the break. They had a lot of possession especially in the second half, but could not open us up.

“In my personal opinion, we created the better chances in the first half and second half as well, though.”
