The accomplished striker marked his arrival back at The Salts after nearly a decade away by scoring in the first two minutes of the home game against Crawley Down Gatwick on Tuesday night.

Speaking after Rye’s 2-0 victory in the Sussex Senior Cup second round tie, Olorunda said: “It’s good to be back after a decade away. My career did start here. With a baby on the way, and me and Ginge (Rye joint manager Marc Gall) being good friends, I thought it was time to come home.”

Despite having offers on the table from former clubs Hastings United (where his younger brother Tim plays in midfield) and Maidstone United, Olorunda chose the Quarterboys.

“There were other offers, but sometimes it’s about being loyal,” he continued. “We’re still in the Vase, it’s a tough draw (against East Preston), but we’ll give it a go - I haven’t been to Wembley yet.

“I’ve got the experience to help the others along. I’m motivated and just want to win, whatever level I’m playing at. It’s a strong squad and I’m looking forward to playing.”

Olorunda becomes the latest in a string of high profile signings made by Rye this season and Gall was delighted to beat off interest from higher level clubs to secure his signature.

“It’s colossal, it’s absolutely huge,” Gall enthused. “Everyone is excited about it round the club. I’ve known Ade for a long time and I feel like the friendship got the deal going. I used to play with him years ago and we’re reuniting an old friendship.”
