The 20-year-old striker has departed The Pilot Field in the wake of Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Horsham after scoring 12 goals in 25 appearances since arriving in November.

He said: “It’s a bit of a strange one leaving at this time of the year, but I’ve been trying to stick it out for as long as I could and there’s a few feeling exactly the same way.

“A few people have said to me why have I left, but I think there’s four or five before me that have left since Terry (White) has taken over (as manager) - and that’s not a dig at Terry - so I’m not the first one.”

United were top of Ryman Football League Division One South in early December, but now they are just hoping to scrape into the play-offs with four games to go.

“We’ve gone backwards if anything since when I first joined,” McCreadie continued. “It’s a lot different now, and for me it just wasn’t working and I wasn’t enjoying it. The buzz has gone.

“When I first joined if someone said would you take second, I would’ve said ‘no way, let’s win this’. Now if someone said we would be in the play-offs on goal difference everyone would take it.

“I don’t know why it’s gone wrong, but there’s obviously something. We’re losing to teams that we shouldn’t be losing to and we’re losing quite comfortably.”
