The 19-year-old was taken to hospital after damaging his foot in an under-21 game on Monday night and was due to undergo an MRI scan yesterday (Thursday) morning.

United manager John Maggs said: “It’s not as bad as we thought. He’s getting about and he feels it won’t be long before he’s back. It’s still not good news. He’s settled down in the side really well and got a good partnership going with Poguey (Kenny Pogue).

“This is what happens in football. What we’ve got to do is get him back on the pitch and fingers crossed that it’s going to be shorter rather than longer.”

Tom Vickers was sent-off in the same game, but it looks as though he won’t miss any first team fixtures through suspension. The midfielder will be banned for the first under-21 match in the new year.

McCreadie, Vickers and Ronnie Dolan all had run-outs in the under-21s as they were cup-tied for the first team game at Maidstone United the following night.

“There has been some criticism about why did they play on Monday night, but that’s what the under-21s are for,” continued Maggs. “I’ve done it all season. Those three players didn’t have a game this week and I made sure every player did their week’s work. This is football; life has to go on.”
