Jacob Shelton, who banged in 15 goals for the Pirates during the 2013/14 campaign, has rejoined Bexhill from Hailsham Town.

The 20-year-old forward scored once during a less successful spell at The Polegrove last term, but Bexhill manager Marc Munday is hoping Shelton will be back to form this time.

He said: “I don’t think he was fit enough and he wasn’t right (last season). We’ve spoken about it and he wants to prove a point to me, which I want him to do as well.

“Last year he wasn’t what I was expecting, but I know he’s got the potential. There’s no doubt he’s got it - you can tell from the goals he’s scored - and let’s hope he can replicate the form of two years ago. He’s got the opportunity to get himself a starting shirt.”

Shelton should be in Bexhill’s squad for the visit of Oakwood in Macron Store Southern Combination League Division One on Saturday, assuming the game beats the weather.

Dan Cruikshank is away this weekend and Bexhill may be without Sam Cooper for some time after he injured his ankle against Southwick last weekend. Bexhill have issued a seven-day approach for Saltdean United defender Matt Sellick.
