Super U’s march on in FA Cup

HASTINGS United are through to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup after securing an excellent 2-1 win away to Hitchin Town.

Their reward is a home tie against Wessex League side Blackfield & Langley on October 20 with the winners going on to book a place in the first round proper.

The U’s opening goal in this replay at Top Field came after half-an-hour when good work by Bailo Camara down the right was finished off by Bradley Goldberg.

Hitchin levelled on 58 minutes through John Frendo who tucked away a penalty awarded for a foul by Sean Ray.

The player-boss made amends a quarter-of-an-hour later by heading home what proved to be the winner from a Lee Carey corner.

Hitchin, who finished the game with 10 men following the sending-off of defender Lawrie Stewart for two yellow cards, went close late on when Matt Armstrong-Ford saved from Frendo.

As well progressing into the next round, Hastings pick up £7,500 in prize-money.
