The Sussex County FA has run the league for the past seven years and this new sponsorship deal comes at a time when the league is striving for an independent committee and sustainable finances.

Disability League chairman, Tony Kybett said: “The league needs funding in order to continue to grow and this brand new partnership with Go Walkabout is the start of what we hope is to be an exciting future.”

Clare Nichols, football development officer at the Sussex County FA added: “The rebranding of the league gives it a real identity and is already proving to be beneficial. Like all football leagues the Sussex Disability Football League is run to benefit the clubs and we hope that a more democratic approach and the support from Go Walkabout will aid the development and opportunities available for all.”

The league currently has 20 adult teams and six youth teams who meet on a monthly basis at Freedom Leisure’s Hassocks Sports Centre. Teams are Pan-Disability and come from a wide area in Sussex.

The league also has a representative squad who have competed for the first time this season in the South East Disability Cup.

Chairman of Battle and St Leonards-based Go Walkabout, Harold Lawrence said: “I am delighted that the board of Go Walkabout have agreed this deal with the Sussex Disability Football League. As the founder of the 1066 Specials Disability football Club, it is personally satisfying that ‘Go Walkabout Travel Insurance’ is playing its part in furthering the development of disability football within the County.”
