Suter, who has extensive experience of managing in the County League, will be assisted by Ryan Andrews. He replaces Richard Whittington, who left Town after two years in charge, to take over at division-higher Lancing at the end of last season.

Suter is looking forward to getting back involved in football after the best part of a year out of the game, although knows there is a lot to do before the start of the season.

Suter was manager at Pease Pottage last year, with Andrews his assistant, when the club was wound up before the start of last season.

His previous job as a manager was at Littlehampton in 2011 before he helped out at Redhill in the 2011-12 season.

He said: “There were times when I thought that I wasn’t going to get back into it but there were also times when I thought that something might come up that I’d like as football is in my blood. A lot of jobs had come up on the coast this pre-season but Steyning was a lot closer to my home.

“There’s a lot of good people involved at Steyning and they’ve worked ever so hard to get the club to where it is over the last few years. It’s quite exciting to be back involved but I’m starting from scratch.

“We still need to organise pre-season friendlies and I don’t know what players will be staying from last season.”
