Swimmers make promotion waves

LITTLEHAMPTON Swimming Club gave an impressive performance in the round one gala of the Sussex League against Chichester and Lewes.

The swimmers clearly defined their ambition to regain their Division 1 status by producing the performance of the season by winning 50 of the 55 races, gaining 501 points from a possible 526, to finish in first position.

The relay teams set three new club records in the men’s open, freestyle and medley and the boys’ under-16 medley.

James Fairlie swam sub one minute for the 100m freestyle for the first time in 59.63secs.

There were 36 personal best performances with Natalia Boothby, Gemma Charman, Sam Munroe, Tom Jefferies, Corey Gowans, Frankie Harrison, Holly Porter, Strachan Robertson and Ollie Hodges all achieving personal bests in all their swims.

A club record 49 have gained entry to the Sussex Swimming Championships in March.

The recent Atlantis meeting in Horsham gave the opportunity for swimmers to gain an additional 18 county qualification times.

Lauren Boothby (100m freestyle), Munroe (100m/200m backstroke) and Lewis Smart (100m/200m breaststroke) went one step further and gained regional qualification times.

Fairlie performed well in the gala gaining five county qualifying times and receiving the trophy for top 13-year-old boy.

Several Littlehampton members represented their respective places of study at the Sussex Schools gala held at the Pavilions in Horsham.

Will Jagger (Bishop Luffa) gained two first positions in the 200m and 400m freestyle and a third place in the 100m freestyle.

Will Condron (Chichester College) took gold in the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

Ella Porter (Chichester High School) won silver for the 100m backstroke, Nicholas Savill (St Philip Howard) gained a bronze in the 100m breaststroke and Harry James (Worthing College) won a bronze in the 100m backstroke.

Jagger qualified for three finals and finished in fifth position for both the 50m butterfly and 200m freestyle in the recent ASA zonal swimming championships.

Condron qualified for five finals and finished first in the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle, second in the 100m butterfly, fifth in the 100m backstroke and eighth in the 200m individual medley.
