Tate is top target for Rye

Striker Tate looks likely to dual-register with Sussex County League Rye United, while defender Whyborne is a target for Burgess Hill Town.

Summer signing Tate, who has struggled for form after suffering a broken toe during pre-season, wasn’t at training on Wednesday and Rye boss Scott Price revealed he expects the striker to be in his squad for the weekend.

“Wes told me he wanted to talk to them but I don’t know the position,” said Hastings manager Jason Hopkinson. “He has been a little bit disappointed with how things have gone and it wouldn’t surprise me if he went to Rye.”

As for Whyborne, Hopkinson was rather more hopeful. “I’ve spoken to Rhys and he seems happy enough.”

The U’s - who sit 16th in the Ryman Premier table - take on big spending Carshalton Athletic at The Pilot Field

tomorrow (Saturday).

The game coincides with Non League Day, a celebration of the semi-professional and amateur game. To mark the event, Hastings have cut adult prices to just £5, while all under-18s will be able to see the action absolutely free. In addition, season ticket holders from any other club will be admitted free of charge.

Jack Walder is unlikely to be involved against Carshalton, along with Jack Dixon, Whyborne and Ross Sutton, but Sean Ray, Arron Hopkinson and Kenny Pogue are all expected to shake off knocks, while Lee Carey should be back after missing the last three games.
