Farnborough 4 Three Bridges 0

Little went right for Bridges as they made their exit from the Ryman League Cup. Callum Donaghey, still suffering a sore head from the Sittingbourne match two days earlier, found himself up front when Ljubisa Pelic failed to find his way to Farnborough, and our back four certainly cannot have claimed to be the biggest we’ve ever had!

We were given an early warning when Kieran Thorp was forced to tip Keith Emmerson’s shot around the post. But we were behind after only six minutes when Harry Williams seemed to be unchallenged as he made a run towards goal and left Thorp with no chance. Williams then headed over from Freddie Grant’s free kick before we at last started to get into contention.

Lee Carney and Steve Sargent both showed neat passing skills, notably when Carney’s chip found Tony Garrod, who was denied by a good challenge. But we couldn’t seem to test keeper Joe Tupper enough, and ten minutes before the interval Williams found himself alone on the right side of the box and duly fired home his and Farnborough’s second.

A cross whot by the same player was tipped over by Thorp and the half ended with a solid effort by Garrod being deflected wide. It proved to be one of his last contributions too before coming off injured.

Williams completed a simple hat trick after 61 minutes as a cross fell to him, and we then lost Matt Whitehead to injury before Ashley Mutungerwa saw a snap drive go just wide. But it wasn’t going to be Bridges’ day as after 74 minutes even Thorp proved human as he misjudged the bounce of a long ball and left Emmerson the task of drilling into an empty net.

Bridges: K.Thorp, D.Mobsby (A.Jones, 69), M.Daniel, S.Sargent, J.Lansdale, M.Pulling, S.MacVicar, L.Carney, C.Donaghey, T.Garrod (A.Mutongerwa, h-t), M.Whitehead (K.Newman-Knott, 67).
