Time to grow up fumes Rye boss

A 2-0 defeat away to Horsham YMCA in Sussex County Football League Division One on Saturday was followed by a 4-0 loss at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe in the John O’Hara League Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

After the Peacehaven game, Rye manager Price said: “This is my fifth year (in the role) and this is probably the second time - after Clymping away when we lost 5-1 - I’m actually embarrassed by my team.

“Saturday we lost 2-0, but at least we played some football. Tonight we were completely outplayed from the first minute to the last minute.

“The attitude tonight just wasn’t good enough. I thought it was that bad that I didn’t even speak to them after the game. I don’t think they even deserved a chat.

“If you look at the experienced players in the side, Sam (Adams), Stozzer (Anthony Storey) and even Irish (Sean Kelly), they don’t stop working, don’t stop doing the right things.

“It’s the others who need to grow up and grow a pair. You can have a bad day at the office, but at least show a bit of fight. We need 11 players who are willing to work, not stand there and moan at players because they don’t get the ball passed to them.”

Hopefully the signing of Sam Crabb might perk things up a bit. The former Eastbourne Borough attacking player has joined on a dual-registration basis from Eastbourne Town and is expected to be in the squad for the trip to Dorking Wanderers in the league tomorrow (Saturday).
