United groundsman and director Simon Rudkins, supporters liaison officer and PA announcer Pat McCrossan, and joint caretaker manager Mark Stapley have been working hard on the pitch this morning amid all the rain that’s been falling.

Rudkins wrote on social network site Twitter: “Pitch has passed inspection and game is on although final decision will be with match referee.”

Assuming it goes ahead, the match - which will kick-off at 3pm - will be a huge test for United just two days after the resignation of Dom Di Paola and the rest of his management team.

Burgess Hill are unbeaten in Ryman Football League Division One South all season and have lost just once in all competitions so far - away to Dartford in the FA Cup.

United are in 20th place having picked up just six points from their last eight league games, the latest of which was a 2-0 loss away to Hythe Town on New Year’s Day. Stapley and John Masters will be looking after first team affairs today.

Elsewhere today, Little Common’s scheduled trip to Storrington and Bexhill United’s game at Saltdean United in Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two have been postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
