In a game of two halves, YMCA had the better of the first half and went ahead after just four minutes when Sam Mannings and Ryan Peake were caught square in the heart of The Mullets’ defence and Leroy Hyett finished well.

Mullets produced a lack lustre display in the first 45 minutes and were lucky to go into the break just one down.

In the second half, Arundel dominated from the off and Dave Herbert brought his side level when he slotted home from the edge of the area in the 50th minute.

Substitute Scott Tipper then had a golden chance to give his side the lead, however, he failed to convert from two yards out.

YMCA were lucky to still have 11 players on the field when their centre-half clinically brought down Rory Biggs, who was clean through on the edge of the area, however, the referee only produced a yellow.

Arundel manager Brett Torode said: “We didn’t start well at all and were lucky to come in at 1-0 to be honest, but I was pleased with the second-half performance as we had a young side out.

“I don’t moan about the referee very often, but it was a shocking decision not to send their centre-half off and the whole of the ground was astounded.”

Arundel travel to 13th-placed Hailsham Town on Saturday for a 3pm kick off at The Beaconfield.

ARUNDEL: Fernandes; Da Costa, Peake, Mannings Peake; A.Biggs, Jenkins, R.Biggs, Herbert; Jearum, Warr. Subs: Tipper (Warr 65), Thetford (Jenkins 70), Hall, Dudas.
