Hassan Jalloh and Jack Mahoney’s strikes were enough to ensure East Grinstead reached the final eight.

Town counted themselves a little unfortunate not to force extra-time against their two-divisions-higher opponents.

East Grinstead, who ply their trade in the Ryman League South, saw off Alan Skipper’s side with a strike in each half.

After falling two goals behind Steyning kept going – with Lee Garnham netting on 83 minutes to force a tense finale.

However, Town were unable to find a leveller and they exited the competiton in this third-round stage.

East Grinstead took the lead with 17 minutes on the clock. Jalloh kept his 25-yard free-kick low and it squirmed in under Ben Rose.

Steyning pushed an equaliser for the remainder of the first-half but they could not find the net.

Mahoney then made it two with 23 minutes left as Town were left with it all to do.

Garnham did pull one back with seven minutes left but a second did not come and Steyning’s Sussex Senior Cup run was ended for another year.
