Town miss a creative spark in Bexhill defeat

A “bad day at the office” saw Steyning Town go down 1-0 at home to Bexhill Utd on Saturday.

Martin Durrant’s scrappy goal before half time won it as Town were far from their creative best.

Assistant manager Tom Gurney said: “No excuses, we just didn’t play well. We dominated possession, and apart from their goal they didn’t have a shot on target.

“But we didn’t create enough, the quality in the final third wasn’t there.”

The visitors found the back of the net when a free kick hit a Steyning defender square in the face and fell to Durrant to smash home.

Steyning’s best chance of the match came just before, Murat Aslan hitting the post with a right footed shot.

Bexhill put 11 behind the ball and the longer it went on the more frustrated we got. It’s disappointing because we’ve been on a good run but this was just an off day.”

Town: Evans; De Frietas, Gathern, Hourigan; Knowles, Harris, Beard (Touse 70), Aslan (Clark); Williamson (Harding 65), Burton.
