Town pitch in for big game

Harrogate Town have been working like Trojans to make sure the FA Cup clash at home to Hastings United does not fall foul of the bad weather which has battered parts of the country.

North Yorkshire has not escaped the torrential downpours with club press officer Peter Arnett admitting: “I have never known rain like it.”

The state of the CNG Stadium pitch has been the cause of great concern but the club had planned to make use of a thermal cover which would be removed on the morning of Saturday’s match.

The second round tie will be unchartered territory as neither club has ever previously played at this stage of the competition.

By mid-day Wednesday, more than 2,100 supporters had already snapped up match tickets. “There is still going to be some capacity available on the day but not a lot,” said Arnett.
