Trip to Rottingdean is rotten one for Bosham

Bosham suffered their worst defeat in years - losing 7-1 at the hands of improving Rottingdean in Sussex League division three.

Manager Tony Hancock was left to ponder on how to galvanise the troops after such a bad day at the office.

Things started well for the Reds when James Bracher put them in front after only 30 seconds, slotting past the stunned Jamie Anderson.

Rottingdean manager Calvin Sweetman lambasted his troops and soon the hosts were in the lead thanks to two penalties from Nick Pollard. The first came after a panicky challenge from Leon Smith; the second from a tackle from Ben Blanshard.

The Robins became edgy at the back and, with numerous players missing, the makeshift line-up was struggling to gel, and Rottingdean netted two more.

Ben Wingfield took advantage of hesitation in the Bosham defence to slot home and then Tom Stead latched on to a failed clearance from a corner.

In the second half the Reds created chances for Bracher, Marc Maunder and Kieran Hartley, but to no avail.

Giles Shepherd, Jamie Watts and Luke Pawson rubbed salt into Bosham’s wounds with further goals.

Bosham boss Hancock said: “Now’s the moment for the players to dust themselves down, forget the past and move on.”
