Tucker will take over first-team duties next season from Gary Block, who will move into a new role overseeing the development of all players.

Tucker said: “I played for Pagham in my playing career and live close to the ground.

“They achieved a third-placed finish in the County League this season and are a magnificent club. If you look at the squad at the moment it’s so strong.

“They also have close links with Bognor so that is something that can be built on.”

Tucker, who has been in management for only four seasons, knows he will face a tricky test in charge of the Lions.

He added: “I’ve not been in management for long and this is such a great opportunity for me. They have a small budget to play with and it’s something I’m really looking forward to.

“I would like to thank everyone at Wick for all of their help and support in my time there and I wish them all the best.”

A statement from Pagham said the cluhb were excited to announce Tucker as first-team manager for next season.

The Lions said: “Jon will be working closely with Gary Block who will be both mentoring and overseeing the development of all players affiliated to Pagham FC, thereby continuing his exceptional achievements this season.

“The chairman and committee are confident the pairing of the SCFL’s most ambitious young manager and one of its most experienced managers will the be the perfect match for Pagham.”

Meanwhile, a 4-0 defeat for the Lions at Eastbourne came too late for their hosts to threaten a third-place finish for the men from Nyetimber Lane.

Two goals in each half – scored by Danny Ellis, Layton Schaaf, Kenny Pogue and Dominic Clarke – condemned Block’s team to defeat but they’re four points clear of Town in third place with only a game to go.

Pagham round off their season at home to Ringmer today (April 25).
