AFC Uckfield crashed out the RUR Charity Cup after a 6-2 defeat at local rivals Crowborough Athletic who go on to progress to the third round.

Caolan O’Reilly put the Uckers ahead after just six minutes at The Crowborough Community Stadium when Adam Barnard found George Hiller-Jones down the left. Hedid well to beat the defender before stroking the ball into the box; a deflection took it into the path of the oncoming O’Reilly, who drilled low past Ben Head and into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

This proved to be one of few highlights for the travelling side, as Ross Campbell equalised for the hosts some 20 minutes later.

Tom Pearson’s excellent cross from the left ran to Campbell at the far post, whose first shot was well blocked, but the winger’s second attempt across goal beat the standing Jake Buss to find the far bottom corner.

AFC then had a glorious opportunity to go into the half time interval ahead, as Jack Turner was penalised for pulling back Jack Divall for a penalty. Divall dusted himself down, but could only fire his spot-kick well over the bar.

This quickly proved costly as Tom Pearson gave the Crows the lead on 51 minutes when he did well to avoid the challenges from the AFC defence before coolly slotting the ball past the advancing Buss.

Pearson then doubled his tally for the night with a sensational strike, cutting in from the left wing before unleashing a 25-yard shot that Buss could only admire.

Tom Swancott and then Divall were denied by both Head and the woodwork, before debutant Ross Lennox drove home a loose ball after Buss had done well to keep out Sam Carrington’s effort.

Scott Taylor then added a fifth for Crowborough after 83 minutes with a spectacular effort, striking the ball a full 30 yards out, his shot dipping under the crossbar of the far post leaving Buss helpless.

Ben Dartnall smashed in a consolation for Uckfield moments later as Jack Divall played a free-kick across to the midfielder, who drilled the ball into the top far corner 25 yards from goal. Sam Carrington completed the scoring in stoppage time, beating Buss in a one on one.
