The Bognor-based club, who play their home games along the A259 at Crabtree Park, took the lead through Matt Porter’s searing 15the minute.

But AFC Goring hit back through a fine solo effort just before the break and added a couple more after the interval.

Tiredness took it’s toll in the Sunday sunshine and the visitors could have won the Division One match by a bigger margin but for a string of fine save by Uni goalkeeper Luke Munt.

‘In the first-half we could have been out of sight but we failed to take our chances,’ said Unicorn manager Barclay.

Fitness told in the end, especially in the hot weather when we were up against a team with really pacy strikers.

‘No complaints, they deserved to win, our defending for their critical second goal was poor and we were chasing the game after that.

‘Luke was outstanding and made three or four saves from the top drawer.’

Munt said: ‘I don’t feel like it was one of my best games because we lost but I was happy with my performance.

‘It’s all about the team though and the most important thing is to chalk up our first win next weekend.’
