United ace in burst appendix scare

The former Eastbourne Borough striker is now on the mend, but is likely to be sidelined from playing for around two months.

Bexhill manager Marc Munday said: “He had a burst appendix last Thursday night, and was rushed into hospital and had it taken out. He’s out for 8-10 weeks I’ve been told minimum, but as soon as he’s up and mobile enough, he’ll be there on the bench. He’s really enjoying what’s going on at the minute.”

Atkin was unable to attend Bexhill’s splendid FA Vase victory away to Glebe on Sunday. Although some of the other players who missed that game are expected to be available again for the trip to Rustington in Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two tomorrow (Saturday), Munday says they will have to wait their turn.

“If you play and play well, you keep your shirt,” he continued. “I think that’s how you keep your level going. The boys that are in there played that well and I’m hoping they want to play that well again to keep that shirt. You’ve got to be fair to people and I’ve got to be true to my word.”
