The U’s went down 3-1 away to Redhill in Ryman Football League Division One South having played the majority of the match with 10 men following the dismissal of Jordan Johnson.

United made a couple of changes to the starting line-up from Saturday’s 1-0 loss at home to Chipstead. Bryce Masters came in at right-back with Richard Rose switching to left-back and the fit-again Ronnie Dolan also started. Sam Adams took his place despite coming off injured at half time against Chipstead.

The visitors got off to an encouraging start with Frankie Sawyer firing over on a couple of occasions before Redhill took a 21st minute lead with a goal out of nothing. Rose miscued an attempted backpass and Tyrone Pink capitalised despite a misunderstanding with team-mate Tre Mitford.

Pink then had an effort deflected wide from Mitford’s pass and Joe Bingham flashed a shot just over the away crossbar before Johnson was shown a straight red card for a firm tackle on Bingham, although he might have won the ball before catching the player.

Redhill doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark, Mitford chipping United goalkeeper Josh Pelling having got free down the home right. Pelling then pulled off a fine save from Bingham and United suddenly pulled one back in the 32nd minute, Sawyer receiving a pass from Adams and beating his man before scoring with a low shot.

Mitford sliced well wide from the edge of United’s area, while at the other end, Dolan brought a save out of the home goalkeeper and Rose was off target with the rebound.

In the second half, United defender Sean Ray made a crucial clearance and Pelling made another good stop from Mitford before Redhill extended their lead on the hour. Pink had plenty of room to score his second of the night following a cross from the right.

United switched to three at the back thereafter and made a trio of substitutions. One of the replacements, Jason Taylor, sent over a cross which was headed just wide by Dave Cook and was then unable to beat a defender on the line following a goalkeeper error.

United: Pelling, Masters (Hassan), Rose, T. Olorunda, Ray, King (Cruttwell), Cook, Johnson, Adams (J. Taylor), Sawyer, Dolan. Subs not used: M. Taylor, Bankole.
