United boss: We can't afford any slip-ups

Hastings United Football Club manager Garry Wilson believes his team will probably need to win all of its final three matches to reach the play-offs.

The U’s occupy the last Ryman League Division One South play-off spot following Tuesday night’s 1-0 win away to East Grinstead Town, but are only above Faversham Town on goal difference having played an extra game.

Wilson said: “I would think we would need to win the three games, but you never know. But even nine points doesn’t guarantee it if the other teams keep winning. We’ll take it one game at a time, and try and get the three points.”

Two of United’s remaining three fixtures are at home, starting with a visit from eighth-placed Molesey today (Saturday). Kick-off at The Pilot Field is 3pm.

“We always fancy ourselves at home,” continued Wilson, who added that there’s a feelgood factor about his squad. “The boys were bouncing on Tuesday night after the game.

“I think everybody’s back to fitness, nobody’s got any suspensions and we’re going Saturday to Saturday now. We don’t have those Tuesday nights now - that little spell (of midweek away matches) in March killed us I think. People are feeling good, there’s a feelgood factor.”
