United draw but it could’ve been more

Hastings United picked up a point from their latest Ryman Football League Premier Division fixture on Saturday.

But the 2-2 draw away to Concord Rangers might have been better because United opened up a two-goal lead during the first half only to be level at the break.

Arron Hopkinson gave the U’s a 34th minute lead by converting a Ben Billings cross and then turned provider for Matt Hall to make it 2-0 just four minutes later.

Kyle Asante pulled one back in the 42nd minute, however, and Michael Noone levelled from the penalty spot after Sean Ray fouled Harry Elmes shortly before the interval.

Jack Walder had a strong penalty shout turned down in the second half and Hopkinson went close to a late winner. Rhys Whyborne made his return to United colours as a late substitute.

United: Anderson, Dixon, Sutton (Manning), Crellin, Ray, Jirbandey, Hopkinson (Whyborne), Walder (Carey), Pogue, Hall, Billings. Subs not used: Foreman, Bolwell.
