United draw with nine-man leaders

Hastings United fought out a goalless draw at home to leaders Lowestoft Town on Saturday.

There were few chances at either end during a drab Ryman Football League Premier Division fixture that was delayed by half-an-hour due to Lowestoft’s late arrival.

The visitors actually ended the match with nine men after having two players sent-off in the closing 20 minutes against a U’s side which welcomed back Frankie Sawyer.

Elsewhere, Rye United came from 2-0 down after 12 minutes to see off East Grinstead Town 5-2 and go third in Division One of the Sussex County League.

Scott Ramsay pulled one back before half time and Rye netted four times without reply after the break through Matt Maclean (2), Jack Dixon and Sam Cole in a match played at Tunbridge Wells FC with The Salts still out of action.

In the same division, Sidley United drew 1-1 at home to Redhill. Terry Payne deflected in a Kevin Bird shot to give the Blues a half time lead.

Second-placed Little Common suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Littlehampton Town in Division Two, but Westfield won 2-1 at Midhurst & Easebourne to go fifth.
