United eye fast start to 2012

Hastings United will be gunning to start 2012 a good deal better than they finished 2011.

The U’s will be looking to put back-to-back home Ryman Football League Premier Division defeats behind them when they travel to Margate today (Monday).

The disappointing 2-1 loss to East Thurrock United on New Year’s Eve has left United in 15th place and only four points above the bottom four with 20 matches remaining.

Margate are five places and nine points better off with a game in hand. August’s reverse fixture at The Pilot Field ended in a 2-2 draw with both sides reduced to 10 men.

United player-manager Sean Ray, who was controversially sent-off the last time the teams met, is available again after a two-match suspension.

If you don’t fancy the trip east, there is plenty of action to choose from locally. Sussex County League leaders Rye United will be itching for an instant return to winning ways when they host Peacehaven & Telscombe.

Also in Division One, Sidley United will be desperate to end their five-match losing run as they entertain Ringmer, while Westfield will take on Little Common in a Division Two derby at The Parish Field.

All matches will kick-off at 3pm besides the Westfield versus Common game, which will begin at 1.30pm.
