Upton set for Rye return

Liam Upton is poised to return to Rye United colours tonight (Tuesday).

The 22-year-old attacking player has signed for the Quarterboys on a dual-registration basis with Hastings United and is in the squad for the Sussex Senior Cup first round tie at Ringmer.

Although boosted by Upton’s presence, Rye manager Scott Price is without a number of players including the in-form Andy Atkin, Jack Franklin, Jack Hope, Sean Kelly, Shaun Loft and Jack Sullivan.

It will be Rye’s third trip to The Caburn already this season. The Sussex County Football League Division One fixture between the two clubs last month ended in a 2-0 win for Ringmer having originally been abandoned at half time due to a floodlight failure in August.

Elsewhere, Sidley United will be eager to record their first Sussex Division One victory since September 11 when they travel to AFC Uckfield.

Kenny Pogue is expected to play for the Blues against second-bottom opposition, while Daniyar Tashpulatov is due to line-up in goal. Jack Cooper and Billy Trickett are injured.

Sussex Division Two side Bexhill United will be seeking to win away to a Division One team for the second successive Tuesday as they head to Horsham YMCA in the Sussex Senior Cup.

Bexhill triumphed at Shoreham in the Sussex RUR Charity Cup last week and are still unbeaten in all competitions this season, while Horsham have won seven and lost one of their last eight outings. Kick-off in each game is 7.45pm.

Little Common’s eagerly-awaited first floodlit fixture at their Recreation Ground base, however, has been postponed.

Common were due to host Crowborough Athletic in the Sussex Senior Cup, but the lights are being tested again on Thursday evening and the club hopes to get the go ahead to use them afterwards.
