The relevant paperwork hadn’t been completed as of this morning (Thursday), but U’s manager Di Paola hopes to have the pair in place for the trip to Herne Bay on Saturday.

He said: “Hopefully they will give us a bit more quality. One is a creative midfielder with lots of Ryman League experience. In my mind he will be a really good addition to the squad.

“The other one is a forward who’s been in and around this league and above. For me he’s potentially the most gifted player in our league and he can deliver on his day.

“It doesn’t seem to matter how many I sign, we never seem to be inundated with players. I’ve had spells (in his managerial career) where we’ve had a bit of a crisis in terms of injuries, but here we don’t seem to be able to keep a fit side together.”

Sam Cruttwell and Tom Vickers are expected to be fit to face Herne Bay, but Marc Pullan is set to miss out through injury. Adam Hunt is back from suspension and Ade Olorunda’s ban will finish in time for the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup third round tie at home to Burgess Hill Town on Monday night.
