U’s hoping for Goldberg return

Hastings United hope to welcome back leading scorer Bradley Goldberg for the visit from Canvey Island today (Saturday).

The nine-goal striker has missed United’s last two games with a knock picked up during the 3-2 win over Enfield Town on Tuesday, last week.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw with Bognor Regis Town this Tuesday, United player-manager Sean Ray said: “Bradley’s doing some physio work tonight and hopefully he’ll be back Saturday. Someone like Bradley might’ve made the difference tonight with his goal threat and how direct he is.”

It was important for United to at least get something against Bognor following the 4-0 loss at Met Police on Saturday.

“The boys have really dug in to make amends for Saturday,” continued Ray. “They know they let themselves down and the club down, but tonight we proved that Saturday was a one-off.

“That wasn’t us on Saturday and I hope the supporters realise that. It wasn’t nice to read some of the comments that have been made and I think they probably weren’t warranted after the recent performances we’ve put in.

“There’s been a few comments going around and every supporter’s entitled to their opinion, but the players don’t need reminding of how poor they were on Saturday. Every now and then we’re going to put one of those performances in; every team does it.”

The lowest ranked team still left in the FA Cup, United are 16th in the Ryman Football League Premier Division and Ray admits they’re disappointed not to be up there with the likes of seventh-placed Bognor because “we know we’re as good as these sides”.
