U’s slip to single goal defeat

HASTINGS United slipped to a 1-0 defeat away to previously winless Carshalton Athletic in the Ryman Premier.

The result was harsh on a Hastings side which came up against a goalkeeper in top form.

Nick Hamaan pulled off a series of fine saves to deny Danny Ellis, Bailo Camara and Zac Attwood (twice). Camara did manage to find the back of the net but his effort was ruled offside.

The only goal of the game came in the second half when Jordan Clarke dribbled past a couple of challenges before firing low beyond Matt Armstrong-Ford.

The Hastings stopper had earlier done well to deny Luke Pigden, while Josh Jirbandey cleared off his own line from a miscued Tom Vickers clearance.

Hastings are back in action on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm) when they take on Lewes in the second round of the Ryman League Cup at The Pilot Field. Admission will be £5 for adults and free for under-21s.
