Vassallo makes all the difference for Chichester City

Chichester City manager Adie Girdler praised his side of youngsters after they won 3-1 at Little Common in the John O'Hara Cup.

Two goals from prolific frontman Ben Vassallo and a first senior strike by stalwart Tom Groome ensured City’s progression in the competition, while also marking their third successive victory in all competitions.

Girdler hailed his exuberant side’s efforts, but was particularly impressed with Groome and debut-making Harry Bass.

Girdler said: “It was a great win. Any win away from home is, so we’re pleased with that.

“It was nice to see young Tom Groome get his goal - he had a decent performance. Ben Vassallo played very well.

“We had a young side, with some out injured, and I rested a few. So I’m very pleased.

“I’m very pleased with Harry Bass – he came in and made his debut for the club. And he looks like a very good prospect.

“Tom Groome is still learning his trade, and he’s done well. He’s going to progress, and he’s got a good future. And Harry Bass is a player that we’ve signed to play.”

City will travel to Saltdean United on Saturday in the FA Vase and Girdler is relishing the prospect of unleashing his youngsters again. Next Tuesday, Horsham YMCA visit Oaklands for a league game.
