Vickers has been consistently impressive since returning to The Pilot Field last month, but was given his marching orders for two yellow cards in this Ryman U21 League South Division fixture.

United fielded a strong line-up including Vickers, Trevor McCreadie and Ronnie Dolan, but fell behind after a minute and then lost McCreadie to injury after five minutes.

Vickers was dismissed with the score 3-0 and United were reduced to nine men when Andy Corrigan went off with a shoulder injury after all the substitutes had been used.

Whitstable made full use of their numerical advantage by netting three more times in the closing 15 minutes to round-off a miserable night for the home side.

Eighth-placed United will seek to end a run of three straight defeats when they travel to seventh-placed Margate in their final game of 2013 on Saturday.

The under-18s of United also suffered a 6-0 thumping away to second-placed Lewes last night. United lie sixth in the Ryman Youth League South Division going into their festive break.
