Common did superbly to reach one semi-final and two quarter-finals in the cup competitions, but could only finish seventh in Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division One - the same position as last term.

Player-manager Eldridge said: “As a league campaign, I think our report would read ‘could’ve done better or what could’ve been’. As a cup season, it was very pleasing.

“Overall the season’s been a frustrating one I think. With the group we’ve got and the expectations we have, maybe we could’ve done a little bit better, but ultimately you come where you deserve to be at the end of the season.

“I think we had that little bit of a spell where we were winning, losing, winning, losing and couldn’t really get any consistency. That’s probably been our downfall a little bit, consistency throughout the season.”

Off the field it’s been a sad season for Common following the sudden passing of club chairman and founder Ken Cherry in January, and Eldridge is determined to continue all the hard work he and the rest of the family put in to help make his late grandad’s club successful.

“Everyone involved with the club wants to try and strive forward where we can on and off the pitch,” he continued. “We’ve had restrictions in terms of planning to help us get into the league above, but hopefully we can get something sorted and that will be our aim.

“We’re always looking to add to the squad and improve it where we can. We’ve got a young core about us at the moment which shows good energy. Maybe it lacks experience at times, but we’ve got some experience in other areas.”
