The Westies will conclude their Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two campaign with a tough trip to AFC Uckfield Town on Easter Monday.

Westfield manager Jethro Warren said: “I’m a competitive man and I’m always after all three points. We won’t sit back and defend; we’ll go there and have a go at them.”

Although Westfield are nine positions and 20 points beneath their third-placed opponents, they did come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at Christmas.

Warren and Gordon Cuddington are away for the return meeting. “There will be a few changes, but I’m sure the lads who come in will be more than capable of doing the job,” the manager added.

Warren, meanwhile, felt his side was hard done by to lose 1-0 at home to Mile Oak last weekend.

He said: “For 89 minutes we dominated the game. One long ball again caught us out. We had three or four one-on-ones and two or three other clearcut chances that we should’ve buried. It was one of those days where we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.

“Other than that it was a bit of a nothing game. Windy conditions, ball up in the air a lot, just not a nice game of football really.”

* WESTFIELD reserves extended their winning run to six matches with two more victories over the past week.

Goals from Peter Baker and Steve Willis clinched a 2-1 success against Sandhurst in a Robertsbridge Charity Intermediate Cup second round tie on Saturday.

And then on Tuesday night, Ben Newman’s early strike was enough to earn a 1-0 win away to Bexhill United and close the gap on the top two in Sussex Reserve Section (East).

Westfield will entertain Iden in a Hastings & District FA Intermediate Cup semi-final tomorrow (Saturday) and Seaford Town in the league on Monday afternoon.
