That’s the view of Guy Whittingham after the midfielder grabbed his third goal in as many games when he put the Blues ahead in the 1-1 draw at Preston.

North End goalkeeper Declan Rudd should probably have done better to keep out the effort that crept under his body after some good work in the build-up by David Connolly.

And former Pompey striker Whittingham, who made a career out of finding himself in the right position to get on the end of loose balls in the box, gave a wry smile when discussing Wallace’s rich vein of form in front of goal.

The caretaker Blues boss said: ‘Jed seems to have got that horrible habit of being in the right place at the right time!

‘He’s scored for three games on the bounce now and that’s great for him. But we’re also looking for a bit more from him.

‘Getting that early goal gave us something to hang on to. We didn’t quite manage to do that but it took a very good goal to beat our goalkeeper, who I thought had a great game for us.

‘But I thought all of the players put in a good shift for us. It was about digging in when we had to do that.’

Whittingham also reported no fresh injury worries ahead of Easter Monday’s home clash with Tranmere.

He said: ‘We’ve got a few tired and stiff bodies. But we’ll look after them and they will be ready to go again on Monday.’
