In a repeat of the U14 final from 2015, Warden Park met Imberhorne in the District Cup final held at Oathall Community College.

The Warden Park team were in confident mood after playing the semi-final the previous day, beating The Weald 8-0. The first half of the final was a very tense, close affair with both teams defending well. Concentration levels were high and there was very little space for attacking players to dominate.

After a half time team talk, the Warden Park team started the 2nd half on the front foot and showed more urgency to win the ball higher up the pitch. After creating a few half chances, the game was heading into a 0-0 full time draw and taking the final into extra time.

10 minutes from the end, a moment of quality from Ben Caiden sealed the victory. With the goalkeeper slightly off his line, the ball fell sweetly and, 25 yards out, Ben struck purposefully over the goal keeper’s head to nestle the ball into the net. Having celebrated the goal, the team soon realised that the job was not yet complete. Nerves set in for the final 10 minutes, and if it were not for Lewis Foster making a fine save and then producing a great catch from the resulting corner, the game could have ended differently.

The team now has their Sussex Final to look forward, making it an extremely successful season for Warden Park.
