Webster: We're not feeling the Fratton heat

The Blues tackle Scunthorpe at home tomorrow in a game the emerging teenage defender knows is ‘massive’.

Pompey are struggling to find their feet, especially at home, where they have yet to win in the league this season.

Three defeats from four matches at Fratton is a major reason why the Blues currently sit in the League One relegation zone.

Webster believes his team now have to grind out a few results as they begin a run of three games in eight days.

He said: ‘Saturday’s a massive game.

‘Now we have to start working harder and grinding out results. I’m not too sure what the reason is for not winning at home. But I think we’re new players and we’ll get used to it over time.

‘If we work hard we will beat teams who come to Fratton Park.

‘I don’t think there’s extra pressure at home. We just want to do right by the fans.

‘They’re one of the best, if not the best, fans in the country. So we just want to do the best for them.’

Webster feels having a full week of training together after the defeat at Notts County will benefit Michael Appleton’s troops tomorrow.

‘Having that whole week behind us is definitely going to help,’ he said.

‘When you play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday you can’t always do what you want to do. But we’ve had a good week’s training behind us now and we’re ready.

‘With the squad we have we shouldn’t be where we are.

‘I know it sounds like a bit of an excuse but we’re still quite a new team. But we know we’ll be fine and we’ll start picking up some results in the coming weeks.’
