On Saturday early nerves were quickly settled when Dan Leppard latched on to a Simon Crump pass to send a 30 yarder into the roof of the Lancing net, and the same player virtually sealed the win a few minutes later when he slotted home a Gary Weedon cross.

Weedon then finished off a good team move and cross by Freeman, and Dan Clayton got in on the act to make it 4-0 to the Chilt just before the break.

The second period suffered from a number of substitutions to save players for mid week games but Chilt made it five when Clayton raced onto a Freeman cross to fire home.

Lancing were then awarded two penalties in quick succession. Chris Phillips buried the first but was denied a second by an excellent save by Chilt keeper David Williams.

Craig Dawson completed the rout when he stormed up field to head home a pinpoint Scott Pulling cross.

In Division 1 Barns Green blew the Division One title race wide open when they stunned title favourites and league leaders Yapton 2-1 away on Saturday.

Green started brightly and nearly scored after one second when John Dillon tried an audacious shot from the kick off that the keeper turned over the bar.

With the defence keeping prolific Yapton striker Wooleston under wraps, Green set about their opponents and took the lead on 20 minutes when Dillon headed home.

It soon became two when skipper Jon Bacon rattled one in off his belly from a corner to put the Green 2-0 up at half time.

With Jack Pestridge, Dillon and leading scorer Blick a constant threat, Green battled and harried for every ball.

Jason Dumbrill saved brilliantly from a Wooleston free kick but on 75 minutes Yapton got back into it with a scrappy goal.

With the Green beginning to wilt the Yapton siege ensued, but spirited defending from the whole team lead the visitors to a memorable win.

Barns Green entertain high-fliers Wittering at home this Saturday.

Despite a below par performance from the Division 3 North champions, Forest managed to overcome a committed Ashington side 3-1.

Before going off injured midway through the first half Charlie Hodgson gave Forest a two-goal lead to make it eight goals from seven matches since signing.

Gavin Fowler increased Forest’s lead from the spot with his 17th goal of the season following a foul on Barry Ashton, which resulted in the Ashington being dismissed. Still they pulled one back late on.

In the Worthing & Horsham District League, esults elsewhere meant Ajax were all but mathematically relegated from Division One following a 3-1 defeat to Ajax LA.

It wasn’t without a fight though as it was only the introduction of super-sub Jimmy West that turned the game.

Having promised to one day score for Ajax, he certainly did, heading home LA’s second before misjudging his jump for their third. He was not alone in helping the opposition as Ed Thatcher had earlier turned into his own net to Give LA the lead.

Dan Brazier had popped in the equalizer from a Sam Thatcher cross and Ajax looked OK. Matt Gavaghan guested at right back and man of the match went to stand-in keeper Dan Shambrook with some unique but stylish saves.

Tom Pepper added some spice to the attack whilst families and dogs all enjoyed the spring sunshine and a very entertaining game.
