Westfield hit with Gatcum blow

James Gatcum has been ruled out for the rest of Westfield’s season after breaking his big toe in two places.

The combative midfielder sustained the injury in the PCM Hastings & East Sussex Sunday Football League’s Peter Harris Memorial Trophy final last weekend.

It means Westfield will have to undergo a complete reshuffle in the centre of the park because Sam Willett begins a three-match ban for the trip to Southwick tomorrow (Saturday). The one piece of good news is that Steve Ringwood is available again.

Joint manager Tony Harris hasn’t given up hope of Westfield reaching the 60-point mark for the first time in 12 Sussex County Football League Division Two seasons, although in order to do so they will have to win all of their remaining five matches.

Harris said: “We’ve still got a shot of making the 60-point barrier and that’s obviously a target we’re trying to achieve. They deserve to finish well, they’ve really come on this year.”
