Westfield party out to scale heights

Joint managers Tony Harris and Duncan Jones, first team assistant Mat Ball, player Ashley Paine, and former player and coach Jamie Podmore will join other supporters of Charity for Kids in an attempt to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales respectively within 24 hours.

Headed up by Tony’s brother Paul (who has also played for Westfield in the past), Charity for Kids is a local charity determined to raise funds and awareness to support sick, disabled and terminally ill children in and around Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill and Battle.

The group’s aim is to raise a minimum of £5,000 from the challenge which will take place over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Weekend.

They will travel to Scotland next Friday (June 1) before getting up bright and early to tackle Ben Nevis (4,409ft) at 6.30am. Then it’s Scafell Pike (3,209ft) before going on to Snowdon (3,560ft).

The total distance is estimated at 42km or 27 miles with a total ascent of 9,800ft. For more information, visit www.charityforkids.co.uk
